Abstract

Objectives : This study aims to evaluate how the traumatic experience in childhood is related to the personality profiles in adulthood.
Methods : One hundred and thirty-nine subjects (53 males and 86 females) completed the Korean version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (K-CTQ) and the HEXACO personality inventory.
Results : The total score of HEXACO personality inventory was significantly higher in subjects who did not experienced childhood trauma than those who had a traumatic experience in childhood. Subscale analysis of K-CTQ and HEXACO revealed that the score of emotional and physical abuse is negatively correlated with the honesty-humility domain score. Furthermore, subjects who experienced emotional neglect in childhood showed low openness to experience and were less agreeable to others. Emotional neglect and abuse are also negatively correlated with extraversion and conscientiousness of HEXACO domain-level scales.
Conclusion : Our findings suggest that the prevalence of childhood trauma is highly related to the personality inventory in adulthood.
